On December 6, 2024, an international symposium on the theme of “Researching Sustainability: Methodological Perspectives” was held at the CICE Seminar Room in the IDEC Building of Hiroshima University.<\/div>\n
The symposium provided a platform for sharing diverse methodologies and approaches for deeply exploring the concept of sustainability and facilitated lively discussions among researchers and students.<\/div>\n

Lectures<\/b><\/div>\n
\u3000\u3000The symposium featured lectures by Dr. Peter Sutoris from University of Leeds and Professor Matthew Waldman from Keio University.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000Dr. Sutoris spoke on specific methods for deeply understanding sustainability. Professor Waldman gave a lecture on circular design and its initiatives.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000Both lectures were highly engaging for the participants, and the Q&A sessions following the lectures saw numerous questions from the symposium attendees, leading to lively discussions that extended beyond the scheduled time.<\/div>\n

Student Presentations<\/b><\/div>\n
\u3000\u3000Following the lectures, four graduate students from Hiroshima University\u2014Ateffa Jalali, Hitomi Sato, Moe Asano, and Takuma Hattori\u2014presented their research.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000Each student provided detailed explanations of their research and methodologies. After the presentations, Two invited lecturers\u00a0provided feedback on each presentation, offering specific advice on research methodologies and perspectives for further developing the research.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000This feedback proved invaluable not only for the presenters but also for other participants, who gained significant insights from the discussions.<\/div>\n

Significance and Outcomes of the Symposium<\/b><\/div>\n
\u3000\u3000The symposium reaffirmed the importance of multifaceted perspectives and methodologies in sustainability research.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u3000It brought together the expert knowledge and insights of the lecturers, the enthusiastic presentations by students, and the active engagement of participants through questions and discussions.\u00a0<\/div>\n
