Since 2016, education personnel from the ministries of education, teacher training colleges, and higher education\u2014a total of 65 people from more than 17 countries\u2014visited Japan and shared in the Japanese experience with peace education. However, in 2020, due to the COVID -19 pandemic, the study tour could not be organized. In order to keep sharing knowledge and experiences this year, UNESCO IICBA plans to organize four webinars in partnership with the Center for the Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE) at Hiroshima University for 23 African countries under the theme of \u201cSilencing the Guns\u201d.\u3000<\/strong><\/p>\n

Webinar Series Topics: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Four webinars will be organized under the theme of \u201cSilencing the Guns\u201d. These are:<\/p>\n

  1. Webinar One a.): \u201cCitizenship and Peace Education: The Experience of Sophia University\u201d by Professor Taro Komatsu. b.): \u201cRealizing a Peaceful World Without Nuclear Weapons: The Hiroshima Initiative for Global Peace\u201d by the Peace Promotion Team at the Hiroshima Prefectural Government.<\/li>\n
  2. Webinar Two: A lecture on peace studies titled \u201cRethinking Areas of Cooperation Global Level for Peace Education and Global Governance\u201d by Associate Professor Tatsuo Yamane of Hiroshima University, and \u201cJICA\u2019s Peacebuilding Assistance\u201d by Dr. Dohi Yuko (JICA).<\/li>\n
  3. Webinar Three: \u201cA World Without Nuclear Weapons: Challenges of Nagasaki University\u201d by the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition (RECNA) at Nagasaki University and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).<\/li>\n
  4. Webinar Four: \u201cThe Japanese higher education system and its internationalization\u201d and \u201cStudent Safety and Disaster Education\u201d This webinar will be informed by the experiences of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science, and Technology (MEXT), and Hiroshima City University.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Target Countries <\/strong><\/p>\n

    23 African Countries. These are Anglophone countries (Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Libya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zimbabwe) and Francophone countries (Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, and Tunisia). The targets within those countries are educators and professors in various universities and teacher training colleges, and policymakers and agencies affiliated with the higher education sector.<\/p>\n\n\n
