International Online Exchange Between Elementary and Junior High schools in Higashi Hiroshima and Manila, Philippines (October 2, 2024)

On October 2, 2024, elementary and junior high school students from Higashi Hiroshima participated in an online international exchange with students from Manila, Philippines. This event was made possible through collaboration with the Higashi Hiroshima City Board of Education, Hiroshima University, and the University of the Philippines.

Elementary Schools:

Sixth-grade students formed small groups of five to six in each class to introduce themselves and discuss chosen topics—such as Japanese anime, traditional sweets, and local cuisine—in English. The students from both countries shared information and bonded over these interests, using gestures to communicate effectively. Although some students were initially nervous about speaking English, the conversations become more lively and enjoyable atmosphere. This experience left students motivated and inspired to further improve their English skills.

Junior High Schools:

Nineth-grade students introduced themselves and shared cultural insights from their respective countries. Despite some language challenges, many students successfully communicated by using gestures and the chat function.

This was the first session in an ongoing exchange series. A second online exchange class is scheduled for November, as we continue to promote international understanding and connection among students.
