International Online Exchange Between Elementary and Junior High schools in Higashi Hiroshima and Manila, Philippines (November 26, 2024)

This was the second event of its kind, following the first online international exchange class held on October 2. Once again, the event was made possible through the collaboration of the Higashi Hiroshima City Board of Education, the University of the Philippines and Hiroshima University.

Elementary Schools:

All sixth-grade students in Japan gathered in a large classroom. The Japanese students began by introducing their performance and the instruments they played, while the Filipino students shared their impressions and asked questions. The students then took turns presenting about their schools, followed by a Q & A session. Both groups actively asked and answered questions, creating an engaging and enjoyable exchange.

Junior High Schools:

Nineth-grade students worked in groups of 3-4 to give presentations on the SDGs, showcasing posters they had created. While many students found communicating in English challenging, they actively used the chat function and other tools to interact with one another.

This event was an important first step for both elementary and junior high schools in building confidence in English communication. A third online international exchange class is planned for February, continuing efforts to foster international understanding and connection among students.
