Professor Tatsuya Kusakabe Delivers Keynote Speech at the International Symposium Hosted by National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)
On January 22, 2025, the international symposium “Decolonization Education Practices through Formal/State Actors and Non-state Actors” was held in the grand hall of National Research and Innovation Agency(BRIN) in indonesia.
This symposium aimed to discuss the roles played by both state and non-state actors in promoting the decolonization of education. More than 150 participants, including online attendees, took part in the event.
During the symposium, Professor Tatsuya Kusakabe from CICE delivered a keynote speech on the theme “Learning Improvement as a Decolonization.” He discussed the significance of decolonization through the enhancement of educational quality and presented practical approaches. Additionally, he participated in a panel discussion titled “The Role of State Actors in Decolonizing Education,” where he and other panelists engaged in a deep discussion on the role of state actors in this process.
On the following day, January 23, a writers’ workshop was held to prepare for the publication of a collection of papers related to the symposium’s theme. The workshop began with an explanation by Trina Fizzanty, Ph.D. Head of Research Center for Education BRIN, who outlined the purpose and structure of the paper collection. This was followed by Professor Kusakabe, who provided techniques and key points for academic writing. Participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the writing process and acquire practical insights.
Afterward, the writers were divided into three groups, where they exchanged opinions directly with the editorial team and researchers while receiving concrete feedback on their submitted papers. The discussions were providing a valuable opportunity to clarify the direction of each paper.
Throughout the two-day event, active exchanges of ideas took place among presenters and participants, allowing for the sharing of diverse perspectives on the decolonization Education Practices. This event is expected to further accelerate academic collaboration between Japan and Indonesia and contribute to new educational practices and policy proposals in both countries.
