Desmond Chair of Early Childhood Education, and Director of the Early Childhood Research Centre (ECRC) at Dublin City University, Ireland (DCU). He works on questions of diversity and equality, social justice, evaluation and professionalism in working with young children, families and communities in diverse socio-cultural contexts.

This presentation will give an overview over early childhood policy developments at European Union level, and the challenges and possibilities that presents for research. In the presentation, Prof. Mathias will illustrate these with local examples including examples from Ireland.
